The Cité de la Dentelle / The Lace Centre in Calais presents its collection of machine made lacework from the 19th century to present day. This exhibit is an opportunity to discover the graphic arts as well as the various sources and inspirations of the lace workers who created such beautiful pieces of lace work. We learn that drawings were used as patterns for the creation of the lace pieces and drawings take pride of place in this particular exhibit, which is part of a regional project supported by the Association des Conservateurs in the Nord-Pas-de-Calais (The Conservation Association). This impressive presentation of the neglected art of lace making will rekindle the desire to sew!
